Field Settings

SearchSpring Default Settings
By default SearchSpring searches across all of your fields with an equal weight on each field. Unchecking this box allows you to choose which fields you want to search against and boost the weighting on that field in searches.

Display
The display checkbox controls whether a field will be available in display templates.
Sort
The sort checkbox controls whether a field will be available to sort upon. In the AJAX Display/Hosted Display pages you configure these sorts.
Facet
This checkbox controls whether a field will be included in our facet navigation in search results.
Faceted navigation is a feature in modern E-Commerce sites that allows shoppers to refine or drill-down into product listings to show only items that match the customer's selection. Faceted navigation for E-Commerce websites enables shoppers to filter products using relevant product attributes like Price, Brand, Size, Color or Style. There's no limit to the type or number of facet options that can be made available to customers and usually vary according to the type of product being sold. Typically the faceted navigation options are presented to the left of a product list and often show the count of items that each option matches. When shoppers click on a facet option, the product list is filtered to show only those items that match the particular option. The number of filters or refinements is generally unlimited, enabling customers to do advanced filtering with ease. An example shopping scenario: A shopper is looking for a new pair of running shoes. The customer may choose Shoe Type: Running Shoe, then Size: 10.5 and finally Price: Between $50 and $100 to arrive at a list of shoes they're interested in purchasing.
Faceted navigation may also be referred to as faceted search, faceted browsing, guided navigation or parametric search.
Compare (AJAX Only)
These are the fields that are going to be shown in the product compare for the AJAX Display.
Searchable (Non-default)
Checking this box, when not using the SearchSpring Default Settings, includes the checked field in our search index.
Boost (Non-Default)
By default all searchable fields have an equal weight when doing a search. If you increase the boost amount on a given field that will increase it's weight when performing searches.
Update Fields
The update fields button will re-validate your data feed and build new fields that are found in your data feed that did not exist previously.

Data Preview
The data preview is included in each field settings page. It shows the first 25 records found in your data feed and the fields that relate to those 25 records. If there is a field that only exists in records beyond the first 25 they will not be included in this preview. This preview is useful to check your data when setting up fields.
