Searchspring offers unique behavior when a pinned product disappears from Searchspring's index and later returns to the index.
This also applies to Removing Products.
A product can disappear from Searchspring's index for various reasons:
- The product was removed from your store
- The product was in some way marked as "unavailable" in your store
- We have set up a custom filter to exclude certain products from being synced to Searchspring. A common example is to exclude products with zero stock availability.
If this happens:
The product will no longer show, but will return in its pinned position if/when it returns.
- A product is pinned to position 3 on a page.
- The product goes out of stock, and is un-synced from Searchspring, so it no longer shows anywhere.
- Later, the product comes back into stock, and is re-synced to Searchspring.
- The product re-appears, remembering it should be pinned in position 3 on the page.
However:
Re-saving a merchandising campaign while a pinned product is not synced will override any un-synced pinned products from returning to their pinned position later. The product will still return to the page, but will not be pinned to where it was.
- A product is pinned to position 3 on a page.
- The product goes out of stock, and is un-synced from Searchspring, so it no longer shows anywhere.
- The campaign for the page is modified and saved.
- Later, the product comes back into stock, and is re-synced to Searchspring.
- The product re-appears on the page where it would normally organically appear, not remembering where it was pinned before.
There are also some cases where a product is synced to Searchspring, but still may not be appearing. Check out Why is my product missing? to troubleshoot further on this.
In Category / Filter Campaigns:
The product may still be synced, but if the filter/category that made it belong to your campaign changes, it will no longer appear in that category specifically. However, the same rules as above still apply.
- A product is pinned to position 3 in the "Shoes" category
- The product's category is then changed to "Boots".
- This product can no longer appear in the "Shoes" page / campaign, since it no longer belongs to that category.
- Later, the product is changed back to the "Shoes" category.
- The product re-appears, remembering it should be pinned in position 3 on the page.
- Note: If the campaign is re-saved between steps 3-4 above, the product will no longer remember its pinned position.
This only applies to Searchspring-powered pages. We have no control over how / when these same products may show in product listing pages not powered by Searchspring.
