BEST PRACTICE: IR Advice For Google Promotions
Dos
- Do make promotions accessible to all your customers
- Do make promoted products clear to the user – the promotion title must clearly disclose any redemption requirements
- Do ensure that the confirmation of promotion receipt is clear - Users' receipt of promotions must be clearly confirmed by the point of purchase - discounts must not already be shown on the Product landing page, but given in the cart or at checkout. Since prices in your feeds must match the prices on the landing page, promotions will not be considered added value and are not eligible for Merchant Promotions
- Do ensure that a promotion for free or discounted shipping must be associated with a redemption code
- Do add a redemption code for free or discounted shipping
- Do ensure that your promotion titles are concise, easy to understand, accurate, and only represent the value of the specific deal being promoted - the title of the promotion should not attempt to trick users by stating different deals or otherwise misleading customers.
- Promotions must add value above and beyond the product’s current price - Promotions should provide a monetary discount or an additional good or service not normally associated with the purchase.
- Do offer a minimum discount amount of at least £5 or 5% off the current price of the item.
- Do ensure your promotions adheres to Google’s Editorial Policies
Don’ts
Do not use "Up to" in your promotion titles. This is not allowed by the programme's policy. For instance, with "Up To 40% Off", the merchant needs to state a minimum discount.
Don’t leave our redemption codes for free or discounted shipping. I.e. for promotions such as "FreeUK_SatDelivery".
Don’t reflect the reduction in the SKU price on the Google Shopping product page or your product landing page, but ensure you apply this at checkout or point of sale.
Do not restrict promotions to specific payment methods which are different from the website's normal payment restrictions.
Do not promote the following products through promotions:
- Aids to Pass Drug Tests
- Alcoholic Beverages
- Casinos and Gambling Equipment
- Dangerous Products
- Endangered Species
- Fake Documents
- Financial or Other Related Products
- Healthcare and Medicine
- Human Remains and Body Parts
- Illegal Hacking
- Immovable Property
- Live Animals
- Online Gaming Goods and Currency
- Stolen Property and Lock Picking Devices
- Traffic Devices
- Vehicles
