Merchants have the option of pinning products into specific positions (slots) within search results for specific categories. Follow this walkthrough for a visual tour.
In the main Searchspring Management Console (SMC) menu, select "Merchandising". When the main Merchandising page appears, click "Visual Merchandising".
From this page, select a campaign to manage. In this example, we have chosen "Women's Shirts".
Unpinning Behavior
Use the "Unpinning Behavior" setting to control how products behave when an item is unpinned; "Shift Products" will shift all products (in the same order as their current positions) to fill the empty slot, while "Auto-fill Products" will fill the empty slot based on our relevance algorithm and boost rules.
Note: "Shift Products" is the default setting.
Pinning Products
Note that to the right of the first image, there is a large black cursor.
This cursor, like a computer mouse icon on your screen, serves as a place marker to show where your focus is. You may reposition the cursor anywhere by hovering over any space between products. The cursor will appear in a lighter gray until you click; then it will fix itself to the selected position.
If you mouse over any item in the display, you will see a "Pin" menu appear in the top left corner. This menu offers four options:
- Pin to top
- Pin here
- Pin to cursor
- Pin all prior
Pin to top
Click "Pin to top" to pin the selected item in the very first slot (position) on the page. The cursor will move immediately from the first slot to the right of the pink shirt.
Pin here
Click "Pin here" to pin the selected item in its current slot (position). The cursor will move immediately from the first slot to the right of the pink shirt.
Pin to cursor
Click "Pin to cursor" to pin the selected item to the left of the cursor's current position.
Pin all prior
Click "Pin all prior" to pin the current item and any items above it to their current slots (positions).
The enhanced pinning function allows you to drag and drop an item into a particular slot, where it will be pinned automatically. The cursor will move to the right of the newly pinned item.
You can also double-click an item to pin the item to the left of the cursor. To pin the item to a different location, position the cursor where you want it, then double-click the product to pin it to that location.
Unpin an item by simply mousing over the item and clicking the pin icon, then selecting "Unpin".
Pins toolbox
You have the option to manage pins in bulk by clicking the "Pins" button in the right-hand menu.
You'll note two sections in this pop-up: Pinned Products and Unpinning Conditions.
Pinned Products
In the Pinned Products tab, you can preview all items that have been pinned, along with the slot (position) of each product, which is represented by a circled number in the top right corner of each product. Mouse over the pin on an item and click to unpin it.
Unpinning Conditions
In the Unpinning Conditions tab, you can add up to two conditions (rules) that dictate when a product should be unpinned. This could be related to the product's age, inventory, season, or another factor. Automated unpinning rules ensure that outdated products are removed dynamically, keeping campaigns fresh and relevant without manual intervention.
Click the "Add New Condition" button at the bottom of the form to create a new unpinning condition. Use the "Apply Unpinning When" drop-down menu to select a field, then click the "Condition" drop-down to select is/is not/is less than/is more than. Key in a Field Value or select one from the drop-down list.
Note: You are limited to two conditions in the Unpinning Conditions tab.
Products toolbox
Use the Products toolbox to manage the products in this campaign and to upload products in bulk that you wish to pin using the Products toolbox.
Note: The Bulk Upload option is only available for "Search" or "Landing Page" campaigns.
Click the Products button in the right-hand menu. Find a product using the search box at the top of the window. In the example below, we are searching for "women's shirt".
If a product is added here by clicking the plus (+) button, that item will be inserted to the left of the cursor, and any existing pinned products will shift to the right to make room for it.
Click the Bulk Import tab to add multiple SKUs at once. Values should be comma-separated and can be the "unique ID" or the "SKU" fields specified in Core Mappings settings in Data\Data Settings\Core Mappings.
You may copy in a comma-separate list of product IDs, and these items will be pinned to the top of the list, starting with the first slot. Any existing pinned products will be shifted farther down. When values are pasted into the clipboard, a preview will be displayed, and you will be prompted to confirm the changes. The products added will be pinned starting from the first position in the campaign.
Be sure to save your changes by clicking the "Save" button at the top of the toolbox menu on the right. The system will display a status bar with info about publishing changes to the revised campaign.
Copy a campaign
When you save a campaign, you have the option to copy it. Once you click the "Save" option at the top of the toolbar on the right, the system will display a "Copy campaign to…" drop-down menu. Click the menu to select which account to which you will copy the campaign. Then click the "Copy Campaign" button at the bottom right of the pop-up window.
Preview a campaign
You can see the link to a campaign and rules within Search Preview; simply click "Preview Page" at the top of the form.
The search preview will display. If you click the "Sources" link in the right menu, this will display a section on "Pinned Products" to show the campaign used and its associated unpinning rules.
