What is a Campaign?
In the Searchspring management console (SMC), a campaign is a centralized container for the rules, settings, and content that define the shopping experience. It allows merchandisers to move beyond "one-size-fits-all" results by curating exactly what a shopper sees based on who they are, where they are, and what they are looking for.
1. The Scope: Where does it apply?
Campaigns can be broad or surgical, depending on your goals:
- Default Campaigns: These act as a global baseline, applying rules or banners across your entire site unless a more specific campaign takes over.
- Targeted Campaigns: These focus on specific Product Listing Pages (PLPs), categories, or search terms (e.g., showing a specific order of results only when a user searches for "running shoes").
2. The Toolkit: What's inside?
Every campaign is built using four core pillars:
- Merchandising Rules: Use boosts to prioritize high-margin items or pin specific "must-see" products to the top of the grid.
- Visual Content: Add promotional banners or adjust filter logic to make the page more intuitive.
- Personalization: When this is enabled, the campaign tracks individual shopper preferences for brands and categories. It then re-ranks results in real-time to match that specific shopper's tastes.
- Scheduling: Set start and end dates to automate seasonal refreshes or limited-time holiday promotions.
3. The Result
By combining these elements, a campaign transforms a standard list of products into a high-converting, personalized storefront tailored to your business strategy.

Make changes across your entire site
Global Campaigns have many of the same features as any other campaign, but the tools will now take affect as a default across your entire site.
The editing interface is very similar to editing any other campaign, however with fewer options. Global Banners can be added, global Boosting Rules can be set, and you can set a schedule for this Global Campaign as well. No other features from Visual Merchandising are available at this level.
Set Up Global Merchandising Campaign
To set up your Global Campaign, click the "Set up Global Merchandising Campaign" button in the top section.
Multiple Global Campaigns
If you already have a global campaign, you can create additional global campaigns to take affect during different schedules, so long as they don't overlap.
You can always have one indefinitely scheduled global campaign in addition to scheduled global campaigns. The indefinite campaign will always be separated at the top of the global campaigns table for convenience.
To create a new campaign, simply click "Create a Global Campaign".
If a scheduled global campaign is currently active, it will completely override your indefinite global campaign. It will not inherit boost rules or banners, rather it will behave as if it is the only global campaign that exists at that time.
Campaign Title
This helps you identify what the campaign is - it's just an internal name that won't appear on your site, so name it whatever you want!
Banners & Boosts
The Banner & Boosts columns give you a high-level view of how campaigns are affecting your site.
- If the Banner icon is blue, you are showing banner content across your store.
- If the Boosts icon is blue, you are boosting products across your store.
Schedule & Status
The Start and End columns show you the date your campaign is set to start and end.
The Status column will show:
- Pending: The start date is in the future
- Active: The campaign is currently active
- Expired: The end date is in the past.
Last Updated
This column identifies the last time the campaign was updated.
Delete global campaign(s)
To delete delete any number of global campaigns at once, use the checkboxes to the left and then click the "Delete" button above the table.
