Athos Commerce sends data to Dotdigital that can be used to create personalized segments for your messaging campaigns. The data fields provided can be leveraged to target specific groups. Because Athos is already tracking and calculating multiple metrics on each registered customer, we are able to append that data to Dotdigital customer records so it can be used in Dotdigital for segmentation purposes.
Segments can be defined based on customer attributes or behaviors.
Authorizing connection to Dotdigital
This step is required to allow Athos to upload the customer attributes discussed above to Dotdigital's customer records. You can then use that data to create segments for your marketing automation campaigns. In the Management Console, in the main menu, select "Data", then click "External Authorizations".
On the External Authorizations page, scroll to the Dotdigital section and click "Manage Connections" to add a connection.
If you already have connections defined, you will see the options "Authorized" and "Manage" in buttons to the right. Click the "Manage" button to manage an existing connection.
Click the "Add New Dotdigital Connection" button to create a new connection.
Add the API username and password, then select a website (or multiple websites) from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window.
Click the "Authorize" button to complete the process. This will connect your Athos account with Dotdigital.
If you do not have the API credentials, log into your Dotdigital account and either look up the information or create a new API user. Learn more about creating Dotdigital API credentials here.
First, log into Dotdigital. From the home page, mouse over your name at the bottom left and click "Settings".
Click "Access".
Click "API Users" at the top.
Click the "Edit" button for the selected user on the right-hand side, or click the "Add New API User" button at the top left.
If you choose to add a new user, the following window will appear:
Key in the user's description, password, and configure the rate limit and status, then click the "Save" button. You will be returned to the API Users page.
Managing existing connections
If you wish to remove an existing connection in the Athos console, click "Manage" on the connection, then click the red "Revoke Access" button in the top right of the window.
You may also click the delete icon (trash can) in the lower section of this window next to any website you want to remove.
Click the "Update Websites" button at the bottom right to confirm the deletion of the data.
Configuring segments
Once you have established a connection, data will be uploaded periodically to append metrics to your customer records in Dotdigital. Please allow 24 hours for the first set of data to populate. Then you can log into Dotdigital to begin setting up segments. From the main menu in Dotdigital, click the "Audience" section and click "Segments" to see your existing segments or to create new ones.
Dotdigital segments are shown in the table below. You can create new segments with the "New Segment" button above. In the new window that appears, select which contacts to use for this segment.
In the example below, we have chosen "Blank template".
Title the segment, then click the "Continue" button.
A new window will appear and show the building blocks to customize your segment.
Click the "Insight data" block from the menu on the left and drag it into the "Include contacts…" section or the "Exclude contacts…" section.
Click the [click to select Insight data] link to select from the options available.
When you click the link, the following pop-up window will appear:
Click the drop-down menu to select "SS_Segmentation_Data", which will pull up Athos-specific data fields.
Under the "Record filters" section, click "Select data field" to choose a field.
Scroll down to see all options, then select one, choose the equation ("is equal to" or "is not equal to", for example), add a value, and click the "Okay" button. In the example below, we have selected "ss_ordercountlast30days" with at least one order in the past month.
You may add multiple conditions to this segment. Once the first condition is defined, drag over another "Insight data" block, select "And" or "Or", and click the [click to select Insight data] link to add another defining characteristic.
In our example here, we have selected a second condition: if the lifetime purchase value is among the highest.
Once all conditions are configured, save your changes by clicking the "Save" button in the top-right corner of the screen.
You may then generate the segment by clicking the "Generate Segment" button in the top-right hand corner. A confirmation window will appear if you haven't saved your latest changes; you may then save and continue by clicking the button.
Once the segment has been generated, you can click the "Refresh Count" button in the top right-hand corner to confirm the number of records in the segment.
