Retailers may want the ability to override specific terms in a customer's search query. This need happens because a keyword is no longer relevant and when searching, this keyword generates results that are not useful. The most common useful case for this is to help users with common spelling errors. On the Query Replacement page, you can enter words that will replace other keywords.
A store sells products by a brand called "Happy Pets". Recently this brand has changed their name to "Wonderful Pets". Although the store has updated the brand name for all their products, people might search for "Happy Pets". In this case, setting up a query replacement for "Happy Pets" to "Wonderful Pets" would be helpful and direct shoppers to relevant results.
Add Query Replacement Rule
New replacements may be added by clicking on the Add Query Replacement Rule button.
A window will popup where you can enter an "Original Keyword" (the word you want to replace) and a "Replacement" (the word you want to use instead). After entering the word, click the "Save changes" button in the bottom right corner.
Search Query
The Search Query column shows you the original keyword to be replaced.
Replacement
The Replacement column shows you the replacement word that will be used instead of the original keyword.
Enable
IMPORTANT! In order for a replacement to be processed, the Enable checkbox must be checked. This change automatically saves. If you want to disable a replacement, but not delete it, the change is as simple as unchecking this box. Any updates to this checkbox will take effect the next time Searchspring updates your search index.
